Scott’s 2001 Mitsubishi Evolution 7 is a remarkable fusion of precision engineering, performance enhancements, and advanced tuning. From the meticulously built engine to the upgraded fuel system, electrical enhancements, and enhanced braking and suspension, every aspect of this build is focused on delivering power, precision, and an exhilarating driving experience. Beyond its high-performance capabilities, Scott’s Evolution 7 seamlessly transitions to meet the practical needs of family life, with ample space for groceries and two child seats securely installed in the back seat. Experience the perfect balance of power, precision, and practicality with Scott’s Evolution 7.

Engine:

Under the bonnet of Scott’s Evolution lies a Proximity Motorsport built 2L engine, boasting a compression ratio of 9.45:1. With an Evo IX block as its foundation, this powerhouse features CP pistons, Nitto con rods, ACL bearings, GSC lifters, and GSC 1mm oversized valves. GSC valve springs, ARP 625+ head studs, and a Kiggly trigger kit ensure reliable performance. Additional enhancements include a Tomei 270 camshaft, Tomei cam pulleys, Turbosmart wastegate and Garret G30-770 turbo. The engine’s breath is facilitated by a custom 4″ exhaust and dump pipe, while a KLM exhaust manifold optimizes flow. Supporting components such as a modified intake manifold, R35 GTR coil kit, and ATI harmonic balancer contribute to the engine’s power and reliability. To keep temperatures in check, an ARE custom oil cooler, ARE custom intercooler, and CSF Racing radiator were added.

Fuel System:

The Evolution’s thirst for power is quenched by a robust fuel system. A Radium fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, dampener, and filter work in harmony, while a Radium drop-in fuel pump hanger and surge tank ensure consistent fuel supply. Three Walbro 525 fuel pumps and ID1700X injectors deliver ample fuel volume, supported by a network of custom fuel lines.

ECU and Electrical Enhancements:

To unleash the full potential of the Evolution, Scott incorporated advanced electronic systems. A Link G4X plug-in ECU serves as the brain, seamlessly integrating with a Link PDM, Can lambda, Can keypad, and Can gauge. HV electronics components, including an EGT module, MAP sensor, turbo speed sensor and wideband knock sensor from Bosch Motorsport, provide critical monitoring capabilities. A Bosch Motorsport 68mm drive-by-wire (DBW), coupled with an Evo X DBW pedal, ensures precise throttle response. The electrical system is further enhanced with sensors from Syltech and Honeywell, as well as an Unknown Performance battery bracket and an Odyssey PC680 battery.

Brakes, Wheels, and Suspension:

Scott’s Evolution received braking and suspension upgrades to match its performance. Rays Engineering TE37 wheels in 18×9.5 +22 sizing provide a perfect balance of style and strength. Shockworks coilovers deliver improved handling and adjustability, while slotted front and rear rotors, EBC brake pads, and braided brake lines enhance stopping power and pedal feel.

Tuning Features:

The Evolution’s tuning features take its performance to the next level. A full flex fuel tune allows for optimal power and efficiency in various fuel blends and allows a seamless transition between 98 octane and e85 – although Scott has only used e85 since making the swap to a flex tune. Cruise control ensures comfortable long-distance driving, while launch control (2 step) offers precise launches off the line. Different boost modes enable adaptability to varying driving conditions, and comprehensive protection features including AFR, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and coolant/oil temperature safeguards the engine’s longevity.

Race History:

Scott’s love for cars knows no bounds, extending from building them to the thrilling realm of racing.  The Evo made its racing debut at the 2022 CQ Crane Hire Gold Rush Hill Sprint, placing first in class (Road Registered 4WD up to 3500cc), with a remarkable time of 1:57.038.  Scott’s skill and determination also resulted in securing an impressive 27th position overall out of 118 talented drivers.

Scott’s Mitsubishi Evolution 7 represents a remarkable achievement in automotive craftsmanship, demonstrating the limitless possibilities that can be achieved through the meticulous planning of enhancements. Whether navigating the streets or tearing up the track, this Evolution 7 offers a thrilling blend of performance and practicality.
